IDEA Gold Award 2026 for the URBN HOOP®

The URBN HOOP® received the Gold Award at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2026 in the United States. In the category “Sports, Leisure & Recreation,” the URBN HOOP® was the only product to receive the competition’s highest distinction.
The URBN HOOP® was honored with the Gold Award at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2026 in the United States. Organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) since 1980, the IDEA Awards are among the most prestigious international design competitions.
What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that only one Gold Award was presented in the “Sports, Leisure & Recreation” category in 2026 – and it was awarded to the URBN HOOP®.
The IDEA jury evaluates products not only on their aesthetic qualities, but also on innovation, functionality, user benefit and their contribution to society and the built environment.
As part of the competition, the URBN HOOP® was submitted as a physical product for the final jury review in Dearborn, Michigan. This allowed the jury to assess its construction, material quality, functionality and craftsmanship firsthand.
At the heart of the URBN HOOP® is a specially developed net system designed to withstand the demanding conditions of public basketball courts. Through the combination of high-quality materials and carefully engineered details, wear and maintenance requirements are reduced while preserving the characteristic playing experience of a basketball hoop.
With the Gold Award, the jury recognizes not only the design of the URBN HOOP®, but also its combination of innovation, functionality and durability. The award once again highlights the goal of creating high-quality and sustainable sports infrastructure for public spaces.
